How to Rank on ChatGPT
Staying up to date on all the latest AI trends is impossible. I think we should have a term for it - “AI trends porn” maybe. But one trend I’ve been following is how LLMs are changing keyword search traffic.
To give an example, I just had a baby and a couple weeks after she was born she started getting little baby pimples on her forehead. When I saw this I went to ChatGPT and asked something like “Is it normal for babies to get little pimples”. And turns out it’s perfectly normal and it’s called baby acne (it’s a hormonal thing).
So I’m already using ChatGPT more for some searches. But where is this going to go? And how can brands optimize their AI SEO so if someone searched “what are the best baby formulas?” that their baby formula ranks?
Well this question is kind of like asking how do I lose or gain weight? The solution is simple but the application is hard - be a better company.
But that’s not helpful. So how are LLMs comparing and ranking different brands?
ChatGPT isn’t open about how they compare brands but it looks like it comes down to four factors - your reputation on media publications, on social media, on Reddit (and other forums), and your online reviews.
I just built a tool yesterday - aiseorankingreports.com - that helps brands research how they compare to their competitors for these factors. Instead of spending hours looking into each of these buckets, AI SEO Ranking Reports does all the analysis for you and gives you a clean report about what you need to do to rank higher.
One caveat to all of this is ChatGPT and other LLMs train their data periodically. The last instance of ChatGPT was trained in 2023. So the work you make now will not show up immediately. But if you’re in it for the long run then optimizing these buckets is a no brainer.
That’s it. The tool is super new and a little clunky. Let me know if you think of a way to make it better :)
Happy 4th of July!
